Candle Care & Safety Guide: For a Beautiful, Long-Lasting Burn
Before Every Burn:
Trim your wick: Before lighting, always trim your wick to 1/4”. This prevents excessive soot, flickering flames, and “mushrooming,” ensuring a cleaner, longer-lasting burn. Use our wick trimmer for the best results.
Remove Debris: Make sure he wax pool is clear of any wick trimmings, matches, or any other debris before lighting.
While Burning:
First Burn is Key: The first time you light your candle, let it burn long enough for the entire surface of the wax to melt evenly to the edges of the container. This usually takes about 2-4 hours, depending on candle size. This “memory burn” prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn for the life of your candle.
Burn Time Limits: Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Burning for too long can cause the wick to mushroom, the flame to become to high, and the container to overheat.
Avoid Drafts: Place you candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, vents, fans or open windows. Drafts can cause uneven burning, excessive flickering, and soot buildup on the glass.
Keep Within Sight: Never leave a burning candle unattended. Always extinguish candles before leaving a room or going to sleep. Keep burning candles away from anything flammable and keep out of reach of children and pets.
When Extinguishing:
Use a Snuffer or Dip: For the cleanest and safest way to extinguish your candle, use a candle snuffer. This prevents hot wax from splattering and minimizes smoke. If you don’t have a snuffer, gently dip the wick into the melted wax pool using a wick dipper or a non-flammable tool, then lift it back to an upright position. Avoid blowing it out forcefully, which can cause soot and wax splatter.
Allow to Cool: Let the candle cool completely before handling or relighting.
General Care & Safety:
Stop When Low: Discontinue use when only 1/4” of wax remains at the bottom of the container. Burning beyond this point can cause the container to overheat and potentially crack.
Store Properly: When not in use, store your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or intense light to prevent fading or melting.
